1. In seventh grade, I was marching in the United Way parade with my Girl Scout troop. The parade had to stop at some point for traffic, and I was standing too close to our float when it started moving again. It ran over my leg. I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance but, miraculously, was basically uninjured.
2. When I was born, my umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck three times. When I hear this and other people’s birth horror stories (Luke’s mom very nearly died while having him), I am amazed that anybody ever makes it out alive.
3. The previous two items are apparently what convinced my mom - and, later, me - that there is a God. I was raised non-religious, became a Christian as a teenager, and now consider myself a recovering Lutheran/non-practicing Unitarian.
4. I crashed the driver’s ed car. That was a fun day.
5. I have a whole bunch of obsessive-compulsive tendencies and have had brief stints with anxiety and depression in the past. I’ve had two EEGs in my life, both of which found that my brain has some abnormalities, but nothing indicating any particular condition. I guess I’m just really weird.
6. I am not planning to have children. And not just because I’m afraid I’ll die trying (see #3).
